Research: Genre


The genre of the film is Crime Drama, Thriller. Throughout the opening of the film we will strategically have odd camera shots from all different angles and lengths, to make the audience feel uncomfortable. In editing we will incorporate montages with relevant sound to create dramatic effect and tension as it builds to a climax. In the scenes lighting will be dim and not bright, we want the lighting to reflect the mains character mind that is unstable.We want the audience not knowing who killed the victim but we will leave certain clues for the audience to make a judgement further adding to the thriller genre.

Behind the scenes: Comments  Upon Arrival to set the correct set dressing and props were displayed for the scene, this was then followed by setting the correct aperture and ISO of the camera.  Whilst setting up the mic and tripod, and setting the correct spirit levels.   A lighting stand was deployed to create the light the scene correctly. However, the lighting produced was too bright therefore saturated the shots which didn't match the dark conventions of a thriller film.  We used a Dolly to create some of the tracking shots that were supposed to be in the film, but unfortunately, the wheels didn't respond well to the floor surface. This meant that we didn't use the Dolly in the end. Costume design for each character was carefully selected to match the genre of the film and also conveyed certain traits about a character. Target audience: Through research into the genre of 'Thriller' data suggests the general trend of viewers are male between the age of 25-45. However, by making little shifts in our mise en scene; such as casting. We could broaden our target demographic to the audience of 15-54+ this shift of niche creates higher demand for the mass audiences. Audiences Research: Once we conducted our initial research, we had a bases for the target demographic. The next step was to find similar films that matched our chosen genre - drawing on this as stimuli to find audience pleasure such as conventions and themes. We used our desired sex and age range desires and inputed into our production. Further Research: After developing our film concept, we took to social media to deploy surveys and then began to analyse our research using the google forms application. Justification of genre

Justification of genre Justification of genre - Thriller. The genre we have selected for our film opening is the Thriller genre. We selected thriller as our narrative is of a hanging murder mystery with aspects of both horror and action implemented to create some interesting cinematography throughout the duration of the film opening. For our two minute opening we base the narrative on a typical thriller/horror cannibal story line, similar to 'Hannibal Lecter' but then on the other hand it will be filmed within the still of 'Drive' to add a modern thriller affect on the the classic film narrative style.
